This book is was heavy, but so eloquently written. Naylor truly painted a picture of the trauma, resilience, and community of the women of Brewster Place. It highlights the so many things that Black Women have faced and continue to face in America. So much of what Black women are saying right now in 2020, is throughout this book. The overarching issue of intersectionality is so important, Naylor, highlights it hauntingly, yet beautifully. Black women, who put their bodies on the line, being comforted and protected by other black women, with many facing trauma from their own people.

This was my introduction to Gloria Naylor. I will most certainly be reading more of here work.

I feel like this is a classic and because I loved the movie, I should love the book… not the case. If I hadn’t seen the movie, I probably would’ve been lost. 🤷🏾‍♀️ The movie did this book great justice. I do like the way the movie gave more details about Ben’s life.

Beautiful prose & it kept me thinking long after I'd put it down. The book would have felt more well-rounded if it had more than one male character who wasn't a total ass. I hope this is not the author's (or anyone's) actual experience with men.
