Very compelling read, despite Michelle's unfortunate death. Her editor and some detectives with whom she worked closely were able to piece together the story she wanted to tell but wasn't able to finish. Michelle's style is personal and evocative - it felt like reading fiction instead of true crime. I would highly recommend the audiobook because Patton Oswalt does the afterword, which is very poignant.

This book gave a really good insight into a case I really didn’t know a ton about but I found it kind of hard to follow. I was listening so the time jumps got muddled for me

" He loses his power when we know his face"
As someones who's always been interested in true crime cases this book was really an insight into the GSK, a case I was curious how it went unsolved for so long. McNamara set her sights on finding out who the Golden State Killer and took so much time to investigate and her investigation was beautifully written throughout this book. To be able to see all the detail, her empathy towards victims everything was amazing. Sadly McNamara never was able to see how her research helped catch the GSK which is tragic. Overall I'm glad I took the time to read this book after watching the series because this gave a little bit more detail and insight on McNamara and the case.

It felt really disorganized and confusing. More like a podcast or blog

horrid and upsetting unsolved crimes, handled with infinite polish and sensitivity. this is a fully absorbing account that doesn’t veer into voyeurism.

I thought this book was amazing. It takes such a in-depth look at the golden state killer and at times sends shivers down the spine. It is a very heavy and detailed book, so it took a long time for me to get through. But as someone very into true crime, it’s absolutely fascinating.
