Beautiful crime writing, McNamara was able to hit on the compelling human elements of the story without being exploitative, and balanced well with facts.  I enjoyed the book, and was particularly touched by the enormous effort taken by Michelle's loved ones to finish her project and honor her memory. I wish she was around to fill in the blanks now that GSK is caught.

Very interesting way to combine a story about the authors search for justice with the story of her death and unfinished business. It left me feeling emotional, especially the epilgue with Patton Oswalt.

Didn't enjoy all the cop love. The author reeeeeaaaaalllyyy loves cops and thinks they are super smart and super complicated and genius. No discussion at all on how police incompetency contributes to these serial killers continuing to kill in the first place. And obviously no acknowledgment about how the GSK was a cop in the end (the author died before he was found and arrested).

I'm new to true crime and this was too much for me. It's hard to fathom these things happening in this way.  The content was terrifying but written well and the compilation made sense.  This seems like a solid true crime book.

DNF at 65%. I was really interested up until like 40% and then it slowed down A LOT. This book made me realize that I’m not a true crime girlie

Good read. I also recommend the LA Times podcast on the topic. That one gets all the way through to when the arrested the guy.
