Good if you like real crime, which I do. Michelle was a real loss. I’d have loved to read more from her in the future. She made a difference in this world.
This was a very well written book, and very interesting topic, but it definitely highlighted that true crime just isn't my genre. Michelle did a great job in writing it in a way that kept it interesting and easy to grasp and follow. If you're into true crime, I would definitely recommend it.
Wow, this book just rocked me to my core. One that will stay with you for a long time.
Jumps around a little bit - which is confusing, especially when listening to the audiobook (though the pdf was a huge help but it was so interesting, especially now knowing that Michelle’s dream became a reality and justice was done.

This was engaging in a way most true crime books aren't.
Another one I thought I'd like more - perhaps because I thought it would be a mystery novel, when in fact it deals very much with the grim reality of a police investigation.
The author Michelle McNamara died from a drug overdose before finishing this book, and it was completed by some authors she had been working with as well as her husband Patton Oswald. There are a lot of disturbing details about the book including the number of stalkers that were entering people’s homes either just for entertainment or because they were on reconnaissance to commit violent crimes were just gathering information and leaving access points open for later entry. The police were aware of this activity but didn’t report it in the news because they were warned not to affect real property values. There was no increase in police patrols or funding to address these incidents even though the main perpetrator had gone from theft and rape to murdering couples. The case didn’t get solved for years due to lack of communication and the DNA technology being used even though the police had DNA samples. When the arrest was finally made, the rapes he had committed were beyond the timeframe in California where they could be charged and the defendant was only charged with the murders. He was also an ex-cop so the police knew this guy, but even family were surprised he was a serial offender despite knowing his history of extreme childhood abuse. There were a lot of balls dropped that could have prevented people’s lives from being ruined by this monster.
