I am not really sure what I think about this book. I read it when I was in High School, and now I think maybe I was too young. Although I found it interesting and thought provoking, I felt confused for most of the book. I think it is definitely worth reading and, in my case, re-reading.
This 1977 classic did not age well. I can understand why it was popular back-in-the-day since Jesus was often humanized in pop-culture, hippies leaned into acid, transcendental meditation became mainstream, and we watched the Beatles dig the idea of having a Guru. In a way, it still reminded me of Bach’s earlier book, “Johnathon Livingston Seagull”, but without the sweet simplicity of a thinking bird wanting to be better.
This is one of my top 10 favorite books of all time. I have given away dozens of copies to friends. Good life advice to those willing to hear the message.
Illusions contains an excellent analogy for reincarnation using movies as the vehicle, as well as other spiritual nuggets. I highly recommend this work.
Constantly re-read this book in high school. I still remember many of the excerpts from the Messiah's Handbook. "You are never given a wish without also being given the power to make it come true. You may have to work for it, however." "There is no such thing as a problem without a gift for you in its hands. You seek problems because you need their gifts." And many more.
Words that heal my soul and serve as a reminder....
I needed to read this a second time in immediate succession to really absorb it and separate out the fiction from the useful elements of philosophy. It’s a short book and a quick read with a lot of existential advice on how to view the world. It was easy to savor and reflect on the messages that were meaningful and leave behind the ones that weren’t.
I am whizzing thru this book super fast. A real easy read and unexpectedly page turning. I have never read a story like this one. Spiritual minded people will love it.
Very good book - quick read. Simple yet deep.

Was pivotal at a point in my life and still holds up. Don't go into this book with any expectations, just take what you get out of it
