This is the one book my Dad has really recommended to me. My Dad is not a reader, and I read voraciously. So, I've always taken this recommendation seriously, without ever really getting around to ever really reading it. I'm glad I finally did. It makes sense to me that it is something my Dad would like. It seems like the kind of wisdom he would impart during our weekly Friday night chats when I was at home (My Dad is very philosophical with a beer or two in him. It comes in handy.) The book made me think, and I liked that. I also liked that the Messiah came from Indiana.
I probably will go back to this book time and again, learning from and loving it a little bit more, each time.
For the longest time, I've been struggling to make the transition from fiction to non-fiction. I've never had the patience to wade through a book on self-help or philosophy completely, although I'm not opposed to discussing these ideas. This book blurs the lines between the two genres.
It is a very small book, mysterious and engaging. And I'll admit, a couple of ideas flew right over my head and a couple more I've already heard someplace else. And it feels like one of those books, you need to read at the right time, with the right head space, to enjoy it.
The back cover reads “This is a test to see if your mission in this life is complete, if you are alive, it isn't.” and it was enough to make me dive right in, no regrets.

I'm rating this based on what it meant to me in high school. I haven't read it in ten years, and I don't know if it would hold up. It seems to me now, on reflection, to be kind of hippy-dippy-- but man, I loved this book.
