I hate everything about this. But it's a super poignant metaphor for the conflict between a desire to live and the dark drive to die. I think the scariest thing about this is the way that it reveals something about myself I'm terrified of.

It was nearly 2 in the morning when I read this in the pitch-black of my room, and that definitely added to the spooky factor. Wasn't that scared, not until the very last page where a chill literally ran down my spine and I had to put the tablet down and look around my room to see there aren't any weird, elongated monsters inside with me that came crawling out of the earth.
Few books ever made me feel so icky. Recommend if you can't get enough of existential dread.
Incredibly fitting for Junji Ito’s works. A perfect blend of creepy disturbing horror w/ a dash of romance.

This series deeply disturbed me, which I suppose was the intention. I like to think of most of Ito's work as an analogy for things that Ito sees about the world, and this is no exception in my opinion. I would however, not recommend for someone with a weak stomach!
This was one of the better stories I'd read by Junji Ito (Uzumaki was one of them, Gyo was not). With all the twists and turns, this was well worth my time.

This had much less the climatic ending than I had hoped for to be totally honest. The plot divulged quite substantially and twisted into something more past just "what is going on" which I feel dragged down on it a little bit, although the ending of it is somewhat short and sweet. The character progression felt flawed and more just slightly insane although it made sense - there was just no build up for some characters sudden actions and two were left without answers at the end.
The two one-shots in this are hard to review together. One was short and somewhat ridiculous and the other was long and twisted which I enjoyed. Somewhat hard to review this all in all but a solid 4 stars for this ending volume.

“This is my hole.. it was made for me!” Terrifying to the core, it’s my personal favorite Junji Ito story and one that creeps me out every time I think of it!
