Poor Sage will have no clothes left the way Belmont tears them all to shreds
The last in the Romancing the Clarkson series, Too Beautiful To Break is great read and a wonderful conclusion to the series. TBTB is the story of Belmont and Sage, characters that fascinated me from the other books. With all of the Clarkson stories, this is about family, and this time it's Sage's family that we come to know. It's a tragic story, about a girl from an impoverished family, the 3rd wheel to her parents tumultuous marriage, who finds away out her situation only to be pulled back in by her devotion and honor.
The story line is fast paced and Bailey's writing is poetic and engrossing. She paints a picture of Sage that captures her past and shows us who Sage is, why she's willing to sacrifice her own life to help them:
"She’d been raised in this squalor. No, she hadn’t been raised— she’d reared herself, instinctively knowing from a young age that her parents weren’t capable."
There's something that's pure about the connection they share. Both innocents, are now facing this connection head on. FINALLY!! As well, they both face down deeply ingrained fears, for the sake of each other. It's scary at times, the sacrifices they will make for each other.
I really enjoyed this book and the series. 5 Star and recommendation.

Too Beautiful to Break (Romancing the Clarksons) by Tessa Bailey
Reading Too Beautiful to Break, is like standing in the eye of a hurricane. The storm clouds alert to danger, but the thrill of the unknown outweighs the fear of what's to come. Belmont and Sage are a cocktail of danger from their co - dependent relationship, to their individual demons. Underneath the calm lies precarious revelations that could prove lethal to a friendship that goes beyond the boundaries of the norm. At times I felt like a voyeur as I traversed the carnage of this disturbingly complicated duet of hearts, but once you step into the maze there's no turning back. Your heart won't allow you to walk away.

This is single handedly the worst book I have ever read. Every single aspect of this story was a cringe fest. Sage and Belmont both being virgins? Crazy. Weird mob boss cartoon character villain? Stupid. The solution to the mob boss issue being to marry the mob boss? Crazy and stupid. Also the scene where Belmont kind of almost rapes sage? What?
Also all of the dialogue was so over the top dramatic I was physically cringing after every line.
I finish every book I start and like 40 pages in this one had me seriously considering giving up, throwing it away, and lighting the trash can on fire.

"Goodbye, my heartbeat."
What a way to start a book! I was only two chapters in and I was yelling. This wasn't my favorite as it was a little slow and then jumped forward at lightning speed. A lot of almost unbelievable things happen. However, the love and family, the sacrifice and mental and emotional strength keeps it together.
Let's cut to the chase: The Yays and the Nays
YAYS:
- Chemistry! Love! Devotion! Ya'll know I love a good obsession trope.
- The quotes for this one?! Keep scrolling to see some delicious quotes!
- Understanding of anxiety and toxic bonds.
- Interesting storyline.
- Setting and keeping personal boundaries.
- Blanche Devereaux from Golden Girls mentioned! (This is a personal yay for me, as I'm a fan of the show.)
NAYS:
- DRAMATIC. Good lord.
- Use. Your. Words. (this was a personal gripe in the beginning of the book. It got better.)
- The story is interesting, but it's also a little too crazy.
- I don't remember how old they are, but I understood them to be in they're late 20s, early 30s. The second spicy scene, while good, had me thinking this was about some teenagers. A little cringe.

Spoiler
You're going to agree to some archaic blackmail? No, ma'am. You tell your waste-of-space parents what's happening- and the police and media- and if no one does anything to stop it, you just leave.-
Spoiler
Marriage does NOT mean giving in to every whim of your partner. Was she just going to let him rape her as a part of the spoken agreement to marry? That's what we are led to believe.- Everyone's just going to

donate their pay/laborQUOTES: (Say what you want about Tessa Bailey's books, but her MMCs have A WAY WITH WORDS.)
- "I'll stand between you and whatever it is. I'll make up for being so greedy with your time. I will. Nothing touches Sage while I'm around."- Belmont
- "Your heart asked mine. And mine was already begging."- Belmont
- "My name is Belmont. I'm your daughter's... I'm your daughter's."- Belmont
- "I like knowing there was a layer of me standing between you and the earth."- Belmont (about her wearing his shirt as she went into the dangerous mine)
- "Come over here to me. Just come a little closer and I'll hand you everything inside of me."- Belmont
- "You're going to be my new morning habit. Understand?. . . Mine."- Belmont (You know I search for the delicious declaration of "mine" every time!)
Nope. Wanted to dnf at 55% but finished it. Tessa, idk what to say. You’re my boo but this was a betrayal. I will not read any others in this series bc this one was so awful.
Almost had to DNF this because the characters thought process made me cringe really bad, but powered through by skim reading it, definitely my least favourite of the 4 books.
slow-paced
