This book has a lot going for it. Sydney and Gabe have a close relationship with a long time shared grief between them. Her childhood best friend, his older step-brother, was abducted at eight years old and has been missing for twenty-two years. There was never any clue as to what happened, if someone took him or who, or why. Suddenly, one day... he reappears.

He has lost his memories and has trouble recalling what was real and what were simply dreams. It's up to Gabe and Sydney to help him heal and hopefully remind him of his past.

"Lotus" is a bit of an emotional read with mystery, trauma, love, and even secrets. Things may not always appear as they seem. There's trigger warnings that you may want to make note of at the beginning of the book as well if there's anything you may find triggering yourself, especially involving children.

I loved this book a lot. I love Oliver and that he isn't how you would expect someone to be after over two decades of being abducted. He's such a sweet soul and was such an amazing character. I love the depth of everyone introduced in this book, both the main and secondary characters. It was very well written, and I'll definitely be looking into Jennifer Hartmann's other books!

5 stars. The entire journey through to the last chapter had me entranced. Such a great book with great characters. The last few chapters had me laughing out loud, clenching my fists, holding my breath, and tearing up a tad. This will be one of the few books I know I will reread, which I don’t usually do. Such a great book.

The Lotus will bloom into the most magnificent flower, even when its roots are in the murkiest of waters. I read “Still Beating” first and fell in love with her writing style and ease to provoke emotions. Highly recommend her books!
