"the Lotus will bloom into the most magnificent flower, even when its roots are in the murkiest of waters.”

Second book from this author and I like it. I felt that it was not as heavy as Still Beating, but it has a lot of dark topics…

The story is about Sydney and Oliver, they were friends at a young age but that friendship didn’t last long bcz Oliver gets kidnapped.
Then one day, Sydney hears the news about Oliver being alive after 20years. She didn’t stop mourning of him and is shocked that the person she loved dearly is finally safe and much alive.
We sees a Duo PoV of both Oliver and Sydney through their childhood, separation time and present time.
At first I was kinda upset on how Sydney was acting around Oliver(knowing that Oliver has some feelings for her, she keeps doing the push-and-pull).

But the more the spends time with him and gets him to be comfortable with her, the more her old feelings are coming back….especially when he is emotionally driven with words:

“I enjoy your smile as well. It makes me
want to smile more."
;

"A wise woman once told me that there
is beauty to be found everywhere. Even
in the things that scare us."
;

"I ache for you, Sydney," Oliver rasps, one hand curling behind my head, fisting my hair. "I crave to be
inside you more than I craved freedom in all of those twenty-two years combined."
;

"She is, by far, the greatest work of art.”
;

“I love you, Syd. I loved you then, I love you now, and I'll love you until my dying day.”
—
The true meaning of this book’s title:
Syd was the one who wrote Lotus on Oliver's wrist before he got kidnapped, but it wasn't Lotus it was sn+oh, upside down(their initials).

x

the slight crossover of Still Beating:
I am so happy to see Tabitha in this book and hoping that she gets her happily ever after. I love her dynamic with Gabe.

I really liked Oliver’s POV. How heartbreaking it is to be sheltered from the world for 22 years, and learning everything for the first time again. His mind was so cute and innocent to me.

I personally dislike Syd’s POVs. She just seems very immature to me, but that’s my personal opinion.

I loved the twists at the end. Why he was kidnapped, the true meaning behind it, and what “Lotus” means.

This book had me giggling at Oliver most chapters, and also tugging at my heart the others. A good fast read!!
