the main thing i loved about this book was prose. the flow of the sentence was pure poetry and the writing of the book exceeded my expectations for a YA Novel. The book was also an interesting take on the historical figure Elizabeth Bathory and i loved how unlikable she was as the villain. The main character was a little contradictory and frustrating to oversee at times but when you factor in her age it made a bit more sense about how hasty she was. I wish the conclusion went a little differently but overall it was an enjoyable read

This books starts of great, but then it slows down and becomes yet another demonizing portrayal of Elisabeth Bathory. Don't get me wrong, it is indeed well-written, but I'm on the side of those who think that she was, above all, just a powerful women vilified for it because we all know it's a thing.

Ah mannnnn. This started so strong imo but by the end I wanted to strangle Anna and her misplaced goodwill and unending naïveté and also the ending was godawful and too neatly wrapped. This had such potential. SUCH POTENTIAL!! It was SAPPHIC!! It should have been great!! Ugh.

anna darvulia has just begun working as a scullery maid for countess elizabeth báthory. as she gets closer to elizabeth, she’s promoted to the more sought-after role of chambermaid, which allows her to send even more money to her family. elizabeth quickly takes anna under her wing, but anna soon learns elizabeth might not be as friendly as she thought.

okay, so at first, i was totally misled by this book’s title, though i see now the blurb does say it’s based on the inspiration for real-life countess dracula. despite not containing vampires, this book was plenty bloody, which made it interesting. this was a slow build, but paid off in the end. i do wish this book had been a bit longer, though, especially as it seems the “sequel” follows different characters.
