Loved the peak behind the curtain of Misty Copeland’s experiences finding dance, growing up, and persevering in an already competitive world of dance. Loved her discussion of events, how she felt about them, and the way she discussed dance and specifically ballet that both used the French terms and a description of the movements so that those not familiar could understand the general idea of what she was talking about. I enjoyed the full circle moment of starting with her feelings and getting ready the day of premiering The Firebird in the prologue through her childhood to then get back to this moment and there after at the end of the book. It really makes sense as this is the moment that more of the world became aware and connected to her which then ties into the start of her story. I’m excited to read her next book and to see what else she does in the future!
Moderate: Gun violence, Fatphobia, Racism, and Racial slurs
Minor: Alcoholism, Eating disorder, and Abandonment
