I enjoyed this collection of short stories about the holidays. There are two "Anne" stories and then several others that Montgomery wrote for magazines and newspapers over the years. And each story is good, but the truth is they all tell basically the same story. Be good to people, even when they don't deserve it. It's better to give than to receive. Unexpected kindness is the best kind of kindness. Etc. So it did occasionally border on repetitive, but it was still a nice book to read around the holidays and if you enjoy Montgomery's writing (and who doesn't?) you'll probably enjoy this.

historical short stories are always interesting, but some of these just were not the most fun. Maybe I'll try again some day.

Well, this was simply delightful! I needed something warm and sentimental and cheery, and this hit the spot.

3.5 stars. This is a sweet collection of Christmas stories by one of my favorite authors. I enjoyed some of the stories more than others but they were all heartwarming.

These stories are primarily ones that never saw the light of day after being published in magazines in Montgomery's lifetime. There's a reason for that. I love reading more about Anne and her world, but these are not my favorites.

Sweet holiday stories. Have your tissues ready for the best one, "Matthew Insists on Puffed Sleeves."

Only two of the stories in this collection ("Matthew Insists on Puffed Sleeves" and "Katherine Brook Comes to Green Gables") are about Christmas with Anne Shirley. The rest are magazine stories from Montgomery's early career (most were written before any of the Anne books were published), so they're especially sappy, but offer a greater variety of characters. Luckily, Montgomery is capable of doing overly sentimental stories that aren't entirely nausea-inducing, and at Christmas most people's tolerance for fluff is higher than normal, so it's really not a bad read. Just the right kind of quick uplifting reading for the season.

I enjoyed it. It was a little too happy and hopeful to read all at once. Every story wrapped up in a positively joyful solution. It was nice, but reading them all together is a bit too unrealistic. I was pleased that it included some better know characters like Anne, and I loved "The End of the Young Family Feud," "Aunt Cyrilla's Christmas Basket," and "The Unforgotten One." Overall, I recommend these delightful stories.
