It's a little annoying that they made silly Flycatcher suddenly this noble honourable-speaking knight, but I get the storyline was needed for the War.

Doing my usual thing of jumping into a series because this volume is the one in the library... Spent a very pleasant couple of hours with this (even with all the flicking back to the beginning to get who's who straight).

I'm beginning to think that Willingham is at his best when he abandons day-to-day reality and just goes straight for "mythic." The Good Prince is easily the strongest volume of Fables so far, and a lot of that has to do with the somewhat ethereal nature of it. Not only do we finally find out the truth about Flycatcher, we follow him as he discovers his destiny, and it's about as far removed from the mundane world as we could possibly get. More in this vein would be very much appreciated; for the first time, I was anxious to move on to the next volume - which unfortunately I did not own!

THIS IS MY FAVORITE ONE. Flycatcher deserves the entirety of the known world. This is like redeemed King Arthur and I am absolutely here for it.

I really liked the story of King Ambrose and the rise of the Kingdom of Haven. We also get to see the unraveling of the wooden soldiers and the conflict rising between Geppetto and the Emperor.

Finally remembered why I stopped reading fables. While extremely clunkily written, it's pretty engaging, and despite not being well thought out, is an imaginative intricate world.

And then it just gets stupid in this story arc. Using the lazy, hack story writer tool of oh its magic so we can just use it nonsensically, things just happen so they can move the story along without any grace at all. Characters make stupid nonsensical decisions, and it firmly establishes there is no structure and magic will just used when convenient for the author.

Running out of ways to say this series keeps catching me off-guard in the best possible ways.

It was great to see much more of Flycatcher than we had seen previously in the series! Flycatcher's history comes to light as he teams up with a knight to go on his own hero's journey. I've always liked Flycatcher and it was great to see him go from tortured janitor to a powerful figure in his own right. Definitely one I'd recommend if you're a fan of the series!

I've been interested in Ambrose since I learned his backstory in [b:Fables: 1001 Nights of Snowfall|21322|Fables 1001 Nights of Snowfall|Bill Willingham|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1327870123s/21322.jpg|3163819] and was not disappointed.. Before then frankly I barely noticed him. His story was intercut with Fabletown preparing for battle with the empire and of course more Frau Tokenkinder (who is becoming my favorite character with every book). The story with Snow White and Bigby's cubs didn't work for me. I'm really hoping they grow up soon, the cute kids has kind of worn out its welcome.
