So long and slow. Took for-ev-er.

I finally finished this beast of a book. As always Willingham delivers a solid arc to the ongoing Fables series. I love James Jean's cover art and the fill-in artist wasn't bad either. Great story with lots of ass kicking!

Flycatcher‘s story. Single-handedly invading the Homelands. Third time‘s a charm, after Bigby Wolf and Boy Blue…

Frau Totenkinder is smart, but very scary. There is some pretty gung-ho diplomacy. And Flycatcher cleans up nicely. I didn‘t expect the Arthurian Legend or Lancelot. Nice twist.

The Interlude: The Birthday Secret was cute. Very different artwork. It worked well. Finally the cubs find out something important on their fifth birthday.

Back to the Good Prince. Most of the crew in Fabletown watching Flycatcher through the magic mirror—that was a fun idea.

I really liked what happened with the Magic Grove.Nice art & ending. That was a proper fairytale!

Seriously, any series that's good through ten collected volumes has my attention long term. I'm amazingly pleased with this run, and look forward to the remaining volumes.

Part of me feels like this volume shouldn't have been so good, because it was so easy for Fly to do all that he did. There was no great sacrifice, and everything worked out pretty well for him. But it's still awesome, and I guess it's nice to have something finally go well for the Fables.

This story line is what started to make this comic hard to put down for me - especially in graphic novel form. Those little adventures that divert from the main story line can be fun, but this is the kind of stuff Willingham was building towards. And to think I stopped for a long time after the first five issues... Anyway, Flycatcher's story, which was never that compelling for me, becomes very interesting when coupled with the war plans. The battle becomes the central focus and moves the story forward with every issue.
