The story continues its watershed moments where things are changing so fast you are never quite sure where the world stands any more. It is still working, but much of the story is very far from where this whole miss started. (Snow+Bigby+Zephyr is still the best part of the whole thing)
Definitely one of my top three favourites in the series. I would have to read all of them again to tell you where in the top three!
We're in the end game now (at least of the major plot arc), with this one being the philosophical, meditative, religious and chivalrous conclusion to the story. It feels a bit forced, but you can understand why as spending any more time detailing this in advance would have been confusing at the time and possibly undercut this piece. All told, this volume takes the story places you would never have imagined it would go, giving you a moment of bright light purity that is absent from the rest of the series, but so much a part of the fairy tale genres that Willingham did right by including it.

This has been my favorite installment of Fables to date. A couple of nifty mysteries solved, but mostly a sweet dorky guy having good things come to him.
This was such a hopeful book! Like Flycatcher is probably my favourite hero ever now. It seemed much more reminiscent of an actual fable than the rest of the series. As opposed to intrigue and grey lines, flycatcher is the good guy, and Gepetto is the bad guy. And Flycatcher always wins because he is good and awesome. It was a nice break from all the tension of the rest of this series.
I've always loved Flycatcher's character, but, wow, did this book change my view of him. I never would have thought that the janitor would become king.
As far as kings go Flycatcher is a good one. He is one of the few fables who wants to fight, but not spill any blood. Bigby certainly doesn't share Flycatcher's idea on warfare.
Though I'm usually more interested in Bigby's story than any one else's Flycatcher was an exception. I mean, come on, Flycatcher (SPOILER ALERT) was able to turn all of the wooden soldiers into trees in a forest; how cool is that? It is good to know that the fables are slowly taking back their world.

Flycatcher himself is a little too Good to be very interesting, but the overall story is nice.
I agree with other reviewers that this volume reads more like a fairytale than any other. For that reason it has charm in its fantastical nature yet contrasts starkly with the gritty 'realism' of the rest of the series. The events of the volume were certainly unexpected based off of how the series had been set up to this point. While the change was enjoyable it unfortunately left a resolution that felt rushed, unrealistic, and too easily won.
This is definitely one of my favorite Fables lines so far--Flycatcher remembering his past was obviously leading up to something big, but I definitely didn't see this coming. I was pretty happy to see some of the former characters appear again--Shere Khan, Bluebeard, and Weyland especially. The truth of the Witching Well and how it was actually trapping the souls of the Fables in was extra creepy fun, as well as an explanation as to what was really going on with the Forsworn Knight.
This was a really hard volume for me to put down! Looking forward to seeing how Haven further effects the war with the Adversary, because man did this set up some neat twists.

I liked this story. A bit of a diversion from the usual cast of characters, but well written and well drawn.
