This was, I thought, a really cool addition to the Fables catalogue. We learned the tragic background of Ambrose (the "frog prince" of old) in a previous issue...I think it was 1001 Nights of Snowfall. And from the earliest issues it's established that his "punishment" of infinite janitorial detail is simply how he's sustained his blissful ignorance, forgetting or denying the heartbreak of his past.

The Good Prince brings Ambrose to the foreground and restores him to his princely glory. His descent into the witching well (and the adventures beyond) are beautifully drawn, and I loved the return of a few key characters from the past.

Nice story arc, excellent artwork (as always); all in all, a really fun read.

This was a good storyline. Albeit a little too 'neat'. But I did enjoy all the magic and return of some great characters.

My favorite arc in the series.

This was probably one of my favorite volumes in the entire series so far. Fly/Ambrose is such a sweetheart. And the role he took on in this novel was just amazing. I'm glad that he played such in an important part in the war against the Adversary. He is probably one of the most genuine characters in the entire series so it was nice to see someone who was genuinely concerned with the well being of individuals instead of just killing and winning land. And with that being said I seriously am convinced that Gepetto is a damn nut case.

I really liked Flycatcher's story C:
adventurous dark funny hopeful medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: No

Wow, 10 volumes in and it just keeps getting better.

The Fables series keeps getting better and better, even as events turn darker and darker. War is imminent, both sides are amassing weapons and soldiers, and despite some occasional light-hearted moments, the sense of looming violence hangs heavily over this volume.

In volume 10, The Good Prince, Ambrose (aka Flycatcher) finally gets his own story, and what a phenomenal story it is! The Good Prince story arc is exciting, dramatic, moving, and remarkably well told.

I am loving every minute I spend reading this fantastic graphic novel series, and can't wait to get my hands on the next several volumes. Jump in! I recommend this highly.

I like this volume

I love Flycatcher, and I'm so happy that Willingham gave him this arc to flesh out his character and work on an actual storyline for him. Ultimately, this may lead to its own deus ex machina problems, because he ultimately becomes almost too strong. But I'm willing to forgive that for the time being. This is the first volume in a while that reminded me of the earlier magic the series had for me.
