I think even as a teenager, I was too old for this brand of teenage behavior, and in my thirties I am absolutely too old for it. The art is not my style, and the pages are a bit busy and overwhelming. And yet, somehow I liked this? It takes some strange turns that sometimes felt a little too abrupt, but I appreciated the weirdness mixed into the minutiae of teen life in a small town.

Really good charactes, everything is well drawn.  The story ends a bit abruptly though

Throughout Sacred Heart Liz Suburbia has managed to equally embody both:

A.) Pouring a shot to celebrate youth (in all of it's grimey, heartbreaking, beautiful glory), and
B.) Screaming into the sky at the impending end of it all

From page to page we find ourselves in the midst of nicotine fueled parties, concerts that probably smell like sweat and stale beer, queer self discoveries and dress clad punk boys, homemade tattoos, and the dizzying rush of not giving a fuck. You know, until the dead bodies start showing up. I'm not sure they're a metaphor for the feeling of youth's end closing in on you, or the a product of the literal apocalypse, or a combination of both... but whatever the intention may be: it was fierce.

I didn’t like the art it made it extremely confusing to follow. Also it was a bit too graphic for my liking I don’t really want to see teenagers having sex. Also the plot of no parents took such a background yet it was the only thing I was interested in.

Not my favourite, I’m sure I missed some intense symbolism and everything else but I just didn’t get everything out of it that I thought I might. A lot of religious undertones and all that. Decent quick read overall, just not my fave.

Reading this, I felt confused and exhilarated, bored, annoyed, enrapt— all fitting for a graphic novel that centers on teen love and longing. And, perhaps, The Rapture? Unclear, but enticingly so.
