I really loved the ending but the beg lacked a lot

Okay, this is my favorite book in the world. Man this guy Jude has some serious issues with women and every time I read this I think, what is wrong with this guy can't he see this woman is bad news? But he never does. Highly recommend this one. Like "Of Human Bondage" you end up living in this book totally.
I have just reread this, what a sad book and a sad statement of social mores of the time. Sue Bridehead is so complicated, a woman so smart, so ahead of her time in thinking about relationships, yet ultimately unable to stick to her own convictions due to personal tragedy and the comfort of not pushing against the accepted standards of the day. Really moving but so dark. Like all of Hardy's books, I absolutely lived in its power for the time I was reading it.

Bir Hardy başyapıtı! Az karakterli eserde kişilerin ruh hallerini analiz etmek nefis bir deneyimdi.

A sad story of ambition and delusion. The reader accompanies Jude throughout his unhappy life. It is a tragic tale but must have been considered scandalous when first published in serialized form in 1895. Hardy repudiates any objections in the preface to the novel as follows:
"For a novel addressed by a man to men and women of full age; which attempts to deal unaffectedly with the fret and fever, derision and disaster, that may press in the wake of the strongest passion known to humanity; to tell, without a mincing of words, of a deadly war waged with old Apostolic desperation between flesh and spirit; and to point the tragedy of unfulfilled aims, I am not aware that there is anything in the handling to which exception can be taken."
The strongest passion involves pre-marital sex, entrapment into marriage, abandonment and bigamy, living together unmarried and even the witholding of sex within marriage - quite a tall order even in our modern times. It is that "deadly war between flesh and spirit" that leads to the tragic abandonment of Jude's early ambitions to become a scholar, reflected to some extent in a similar failure on the part of Mr. Phillotson, initially Jude's role model but eventually his nemesis as the husband of Jude's beloved cousin Sue.
An absorbing story which, to my mind, certainly fulfills Hardy's aims for his tale.

I read this for research and to be honest only found two paragraphs of any use. Never mind, it was good to shift gears. Hardy was ridiculously verbose and melodramatic but his ideas seem incredibly progressive for the time.
Jude the Obscure is the story of the slow-moving train wreck of Jude Fawley's life. He never overcame his father wound or his mother wound, never finding contentment in his work and never creating healthy boundaries with women.
Loved the paraphrase of Proverbs 15:15: a contented mind is a continual feast. It's unfortunate that peace alluded Jude.
