I met Kolbeinn Karlsson at C2E2 a few years ago, and he is a very nice guy. His was one of several books I bought at the Top Shelf booth and Kolbeinn was nice enough to sign the copy. So I feel terrible that I responded so poorly to this book. The Troll King is a surrealist fairytale of sorts, but seems to be missing a narrative framework. It consists of a series of vignettes, loosely tethered, but without a coherent message. Bummed this didn't work for me.

Possibly the strangest story I've ever read...

Interesting, "experimental" comic with some charming art. I've seen this kind of thing before (Woodring and the like), but for the most part it works. I do like the fact that the central mystery is left unexplained, inviting interpretation. Time and rereading will tell whether this stays, goes up to 4, or goes down.

Gorgeous but too 'experimental' for me.

There is apparently a short film adaptation of this; I'm interested in seeing it. Like a number of things, I believe this reading experience might be enhanced with psychedelics. This one was a little more "what" than others.

Experimental Swedish comic. Except that lots of people have been doing this type of experimenting for a long time now, so I don't know what to call it. Traditional experimental?
