Inspector Kurt Wallander tries to solve the grisly murder of three young adults on Midsummer's Eve. Despite his best efforts, the investigation always seems to be one step behind.
I've been enjoying the Wallander episodes on PBS this past summer and decided to give one of the books a try. This is actually #7 in the series but since I started out in the middle with the shows, it doesn't really matter much. As soon as I finished this book, I watched the corresponding Masterpiece Mystery episode. It's a great adaptation, with just a few departures from the writing.
I love the Wallander character--his sadness, his efforts to hopelessly endure, his admiration for those he works with, and his quiet smarts. I also love the Swedish landscape--it's as much a character as Wallander himself. A fun series. I will probably find more of them to read.
