Smart, real time, authentic murder mystery with an authentic protagonist in Kurt Wallander.

I thought the translation was a bit poor in places, but it was nice

Of course the reader knew what was odd about the picture the moment that detail popped up, but otherwise this has a tricky plot. The usual suspense is increased by Wallander's new health problems. There are several exciting scenes in which danger is very close. The reader wonders whether Wallander will collapse while chasing down the bad guy.

Why does Wallander never think that a bad guy will want to _________________________? Why doesn't he get himself a ______________________?

My first Wallander. Was a bit predictable at times but perhaps because I’ve read similar stories since it’s been published

An interesting mystery, with good dramatic tension built up as we the reader know more than Wallander does. Despite very few descriptive passages, Mankell manages to bring an incredible sense of place to the story, I felt like I was there with him every step of the way.

This is a typical Wallander. Well written and suspenseful. I thought it wrapped up a bit too quickly, but other than that, it's another great book in a fabulous series.

Excellent! C'est le meilleur Wallander que j'ai lu jusqu'à présent.
Je suis une fan de Nyberg! Faudrait avoir un roman centré sur ce personnage.

This one was quite good! Totally sucked in, had to power it over 3 nights late!

This was almost intimidatingly long at first, and it did take concentration due to the number of characters, but I did enjoy it!

For the most part, I thought the pacing was good, and I enjoyed that the insights into the killers' perspective didn't give away major plot points, so you could theorise and wonder alongside the police.

Some of the details about Wallander were a bit laborious - how many times do I need to read about him drinking water and having a wee - but I enjoyed the plot.

It did feel like it finished rather quickly, and almost a bit abruptly, though, after such a long novel.

I kind of wish I hadn't read this first and had gone through the Wallander novels in the right order, but such is life.

è un giallo assolutamente intrigante, ben costruito e assolutamente da leggere. certo, forse ala fine sfugge via. forse. ma non te ne accorgi nemmeno, perché fino a lì è stato davvero perfetto.
