I was thrilled to read the latest Leo Waterman novel by G. M. Ford. Leo comes from money--specifically money left to him by his corrupt politician father. His father's will stipulated that he not receive his inheritance until he was over forty, so he became a private detective. He has now received his inheritance, and lives in his father's former house, but finds himself drawn back into crime and mystery time and again.

He is usually assisted by a group of "bums" who hang out at a local bar, The Zoo. The bums were less in evidence in this book than usual.

I found this installment of Leo's adventures to be compelling and well worth reading, and I look forward very much to Mr. Ford's next novel.

I received a galley of this book from NetGalley in return for an honest review.

In present day Seattle, when two bodies are found in the boot of a car covered with a coat that belonged to his dead father, Leo Waterman has to investigate. This brings a lot of trouble to him and his friends.
Really enjoyed this story, the style of writing, and the characters and hope to go back and read the series from the beginning.

Leo Waterman's dad's coat is found wrapped around two dead men who are found in a trunk. He is asked whether he knows the men and how his dad's coat got there. He doesn't know the men but his curiosity gets the best of him and he starts investigating. This lead him into all kinds of problems. Both men were married to the same woman and he eventually finds her and her new husband and they have problems of their own. Her husband is a preacher and lots of people are rather upset with him as he has kept a lot of the donations that went to his church. Leo is attacked by two men he thinks are affiliated with the church.
Meanwhile Leo meets his new neighbors and things don't go well with them. The husband is murdered and Leo is arrested. He is released pending more evidence and thinks the wife set him up but he can't prove it. Lots of action going on. Leo gets his buddies the bums involved doing some odd jobs for him. He reunites with his former girlfriend the county coroner.
Well written, good descriptions of the local area, interesting characters and a good mystery.
