Comprehensive, clear. Great photos and descriptions. Really levels up the way you look at and think about fabric.
Could definitely see myself using this in the classroom.

Good, informative book on fabric types. Could be improved with the inclusion of mechine needle sizes

I picked this up in a textile museum and I absolutely love it! It is such a good introduction to everything that has happened to make the piece of fabric you eventually purchase to sew with. It tells you all the important bits about fibers, fabrics, processes... Both the practical and technical knowledge that help you pick out suitable materials for your next projects.
My favourite bit were the overview pages on many fibers and fabrics. For fibers each page shows a picture, a description, background story, origin, characteristics, quality info, washing instructions, alternative fibers, and in several cases also potential environmental impact and/or sustainability benefits. For fabrics each page shows once again a picture, some backstory, properties, common applications, fabrication, common fibers used, alternative fabrics and its weight categories. In between everything is compared, and many processes are explained: from all weaves and knits to dying or other finishing treatments. There’s even overviews for lace types, patterns and motifs, and colours.
As a vegan I did skip some pages that were TMI (both in the sense of brutal details and irrelevance), but good news for my fellow vegans: I also loved this book for providing guidance in finding suitable alternatives. There are quite some interesting (new for me!) fibres being compared to animal fibres so you learn which properties match well, and at the bottom of both fiber and fabric pages it provides you with suitable natural and/or synthetic alternatives.
Definitely recommend this for any (at least relatively new but possibly also more experienced) sewist, I already know I will keep referring back to this.
