I really enjoyed this book! It got me out of a reading slump which Mhairi McFarlane books seem to be really good at. An easy read that it a fun, if not emotional ride!
it is not a big mystery that Eve will end up with Fin but that is part of the charm of the book. This one was a bit more shocking as I wasn't expecting Susie to die at the beginning either!
I also feel like the ending was a little bit rushed and could have had more time post Edinburgh/abuse revelation

Fair warning: this isn’t a book about AFTER a friend dies. This is a book about a friend dying AND what happens after. Very emotional to read about finding out about the death of a friend and all the death admin - identifying the body, planning and attending the funeral, etc.. The first half of the book is written so well, the grief and details described so well, I felt crushed. This is a tear jerker. The last third focused less on grief and more on the rest of the story, and I enjoyed it. I was so proud of how Eve handled her relationship with Ed - so few books in this genre get that honest and introspective. I still love MacFarlane’s skill as a writer.

I seem to be in the minority here… I almost dnf-ed in the first chapters because the way grief was described is so intense, I could feel my mental health slipping down the drain. I did continue, but I don’t like Eve, and I don’t care what happens to the other characters, so yeah. not for me

McFarlane has a way of writing about the messy stuff with such care and reality. This is not a fluffy romcom. It was emotional and intense. Without giving spoilers, the main event in the story felt like it was dragged out. However perhaps that was purposeful choice and a necessary tool to push the characters forward. I would not recommend this book unless you are ready for something a little heavier.
