It's like watching her comedy specials, but reading. Afterword by the father of her kids.

I’m a big fan of Ali Wong’s hilarious standup and have been lucky enough to see her perform at the Comedy Cellar before she became one of the biggest female comedians in the world. Her raunchy and honest humor is spot on and I was eager to learn more about her life.

Wong writes about her life in the format of letters to her two daughters, for them to read when they are older. She gives advice on dating, sex, being an Asian American woman, traveling, food and so much more. We get the quintessential Wong humor but with so much heart and love.

I highly recommend listening to this audiobook, as Wong narrates it expertly. (There’s also an afterword by her now ex husband which he narrates.) I found this book a delightful and also deep book. I didn’t specifically set out to listen to this during AAPI month but what a great coincidence.

Ali and I share a birthday (April 19th!) I’m always excited when I share a birthday with someone as smart and hilarious as Ms. Wong is. I loved that she chose to write this as a way to leave something behind for her daughters as well as giving the audience a small peek into her life growing up in San Francisco, CA. Her memoir was refreshingly candid, open, raw, vulnerable and humorous. I can’t wait to watch her latest Netflix special and I hope to see her perform live soon !

My least favorite part about this book was how it was written as a letter to her daughters. I found it really awkward when she kept talking about you and referring to her husband as "Daddy." I appreciate parts of her humor and I definitely find some of it gratuitous and like she's trying too hard to be edgy and gross.
