I bought this a while back for a friend's child and got around to reading it before packing it to send out and this is one of the sweetest and heartwarming stories I have read in a while. I think this is a great comfort for any child who has experienced loss or even a way to broach the the topic with a child about the loss of a loved one.
This was beautiful. It was simple, yet so touching it brought tears to my eyes. I loved the illustrations accompanying it.

A sensitive intergenerational friendship story that I found to be a bit mixed. I usually like Flett's books as they're very gentle and slice-of-lifey, and she has a distinct illustration style. That all holds true here, but I had a few issues with the artwork this time around. For most of the story it feels like we're looking at the characters from a vast distance, either physically (the characters are often very, very small on the page), or figuratively (many pages feature the back of the characters' heads). I also felt like I often wasn't seeing what was being depicted in the text (i.e. many more pages talked about the main character's friend Agnes than actually showed her).
A gentle, rhythmic story, beautifully illustrated. Highly recommended for old souls and artists ages 5-8.
Gorgeous book about a girl and her relationship with the elderly neighbor. It is told throughout the seasons. Illustrations are spare but meaningful
