The roller coaster this book had my heart on is simply unfair, but I couldn’t get off. Flock was incredible, and Exodus wrecked me. Kate Stewart quickly made her way to the top of my author list.

How do I coherently say I loved the emotional trauma but disliked the actual plot? And don’t get me started on that ending. Allllll that we went through …. For ….. that? This was toxic in all the wrong ways

Okay, so that was heartbreaking.

Most of my book intake these days is lighter frivolity as a vacation from daily stresses, so I didn't pick this book up thinking I was about to cut onions... but I can't say I regret reading it either. There was so much unnecessary pain and toxicity and avoidable fallout that I wanted to shoulder shake the MCs, but to think that humans aren't just this fallible and fear blinded... just this capable of repetitious self destructiveness, even when well intended, would be naive and unrealistic.

I enjoyed this duet and this author, but damned if I'll pick another one of her books up unprepared again.

The first 40% is mostly smut, which don’t get me wrong I like spice, but starts to lose me when there isn’t much else. Thankfully the last 60% made up for it completely. I am LOVING this series! Cecelia is still annoying, but I love all the other characters so much! This one had me on an emotional rollercoaster. Praying the final book is just as good, I really think this might be one of my top series this year.

Update (3 days later): I have not stopped thinking about this. I believe this emotionally damaged me more than I realized.

Every single person is toxic af, and reading this (especially Chapter 25) feels like being stabbed through the heart. 10/10 recommend. Also I hate this book for ending with it raining.
