Loved this. The whole idea of this magic system was reaaally interesting. The only reason that it wasn’t 5 stars, is because it was so short, though that may have been enough for this story.
I’m honestly blown away by what Sanderson pulled off in ~100 pages. This is beautifully written, emotionally rich, and packed with a surprisingly deep magic system rooted in identity and art. Shai is a sharp, compelling protagonist, and the story explores big ideas without ever feeling rushed. It’s proof that fantasy doesn't always need 1,000 pages to tell a powerful story.
