A touching memoir of [a:Iris Murdoch|7287|Iris Murdoch|http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1238673382p2/7287.jpg], written with intelligence, humility and above all, love.
I rarely read non-fiction, but found this to be so poetic in parts, and it read very easily. You get a very real sense of the couple's lives and their relationship. It leaves me hoping that I will one day find someone who will love me as tenderly as John loves Iris.

Felt quite uncomfortable reading this - like watching someone vulnerable being exposed.

John Bayley has written a deeply moving account of his wife, the writer Iris Murdoch, her journey into dementia and its impact on their life together. When my father was diagnosed with Alzheimers, this book helped me to understand that relationships with our loved ones don't have to end under such circumstances, but can be creatively re-defined in a way that gives meaning and nourishment to both parties.
