As Gouda as Dead by Avery Aames is a delightful cozy mystery. It is the sixth book in The Cheese Shop mystery series. Jordan and Charlotte are getting married! They have set the date for Valentine's Day on they are going to be married on Jordan's farm. On the night of their bachelor and bachelorette parties, Tim O'Shea, owner of the pub, is killed on Jordan's farm. Jordan feels it would not be right to go through with the wedding and they postpone it (Charlotte agrees but is disappointed). Charlotte is determined to find out who killed their friend (and ruined her wedding). While tracking down clues, Charlotte stumbles across the body of Dottie, owner of Patisserie. Now Charlotte has two murders to solve and she is determined (Charlotte is very determined and nosy) to find the killer.

Rebecca, Charlotte's ex-Amish assistant, is dating Deputy Devon O'Shea, decorating the shop for Valentine's Day, and is auditioning for the latest play Love Letters (Devon is auditioning for the male lead). Rebecca is a fun character and I like her in the story.

Jordan is not sure he wants to continue running the cheese farm (I do not blame him. Someone was murdered in his cheese making facility). Jordan used to be a chef before entering WITSEC and relocating to Providence, Ohio. Jordan needs to decide what he wants to do--keep running the farm and making cheese, buy a local restaurant, or there is one more option! Jordan also feels bad for postponing the wedding and keeps leaving love notes for Charlotte. It is so sweet and romantic.

Councilwoman Belinda Bell is also stirring up trouble in the community. She keeps complaining about the noise and is trying to oust Charlotte's Grandmother as the mayor. Providence is a great town with an interesting assortment of residents. As Gouda as Dead is a wonderful mystery. I really enjoyed this book and eagerly look forward to the next book in The Cheese Shop mysteries.

You need to read As Gouda as Dead to find out if Jordan and Charlotte get married, who killed Tim and Dottie, and why is Councilwoman Bell so uptight about noise and music. I give As Gouda as Dead 5 out of 5 stars.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review (I won a copy on Facebook).

AS GOUDA AS DEAD is the story about Charlotte Bessette, who owns Fromagerie Bessette in a small town in Ohio. Charlotte is preparing to marry the man of her dreams over Valentine’s weekend. Her fiancé, Jordan Pace, is an artisan cheese farmer and when one of their friends is found murdered on his farm he decides to postpone their wedding. Charlotte is extremely upset by the postponement, but understands Jordan’s reasoning. She decides to find the killer so that her dream wedding can take place. But then she stumbles across the body of the woman who owns Patisserie and she’s even more determined to stop the killer before they strike again.

I enjoyed this book and loved reading descriptions about so many varieties of cheese! Avery includes several delicious recipes at the back of her book incorporating those cheeses. I tried & loved the gluten-free Goat Cheese Cookies! The author does a wonderful job creating characters that keep the story interesting and kept me guessing until the end about who the culprit was.

A little too much talk of cheese, but should have been expected due to the series.

Eh. This one was alright. But Charlotte's starting to annoy me. I've never been overly fond of all the cheese descriptions, but I get it...that's this series' niche. But EVERY one in this town is super into cheese. I don't know one person in my real life who's into cheese even a quarter as much as these people. All the cutesy love letters were just weird. I mean, they made me want to vomit a little bit. And they felt TOTALLY out of character for Jordan. I mean, I'd buy Charlotte's grandfather writing them to his grandmother. Or even Rebecca writing them with whoever she's dating these days. But Charlotte and Jordan? Not so much. Also, as someone who's allergic to cats, I get SO annoyed at these characters in these cozy mysteries that involve businesses. You don't bring your animal to work! Yuck in regards to restaurants, but even the ones I read that are book stores where there's a cat hanging around? Um, no. I'd be sneezing my head off in 5 minutes and certainly would never go back.

Sorry, I kind of went off on a rant there. In regards to THIS book, the mystery just seemed weird and disjointed. All Charlotte and Rebecca's crazy theories drove me batty. I don't blame Urso in the least for ignoring all her calls. I mean, who wants to hear 99 million crackpot theories from the lady who owns a cheese shop and has deluded herself into believing she's your partner. Seriously.

Most of the book went a bit slow for me, however the ending made up for it. I really do love this series, sad I only have one more book left to read.

Dollycas’s Thoughts

Providence, Ohio is the place for lovers in this 6th installment of the spectacular series.

But murder plays havoc with a certain couples plans and they are not taking it laying down. Charlotte is very determined to catch the killer and get her plans back on track!

Avery Aames continues to make this series better and better. We have Charlotte’s crazy bachelorette party, all the shops are doing something special for Lover’s Trail Festival, the Providence Players are performing Love Letters, and there are several weddings planned. Nothing in the planned events included a murder! But before Charlotte’s party ends a phone message changes everyone’s plans.

All our favorite characters are back and they are all busy as can be. Charlotte’s assistant, Rebecca, is even trying out for the play as is Deputy Devon O’Shea. The mayor, Charlotte’s grandmother, is directing the play and heading up all the festival plans. Fromagerie Bessette is hosting a special wine and cheese tasting. There is also a crazy woman filing complaints about noise pollution and running around town threatening people. Through it all Charlotte and Jordan just wanted a happy wedding day and then they went and found that dead body.

Readers like me have been looking forward to this wedding too so I really wanted this culprit caught so the happy couple could start their years of wedded bliss together without a murder investigation to hold them back. I was amazed at the number of suspects and as each one was crossed off the list I was wondering what we were missing right along with Charlotte. The pages of this book were flying.

The author has a gift. She blends her vivid descriptions of the most yummy cheeses, seriously you can almost taste them, with a mystery that is so vivid it almost jumps off the page. The chapters are like potato chips, you can’t read/eat just one. I gobbled up As Gouda as Dead and now I am ready for some more please!

Charlotte Bassette, owner of Fromagerie Bessette (known as The Cheese Shop), is at it again! Right before her wedding to the ever attractive Jordan Pace she finds a dead body! The book was wonderful but I will say I was a little sad by the member of the town murdered. I had come to like him over the past 5 books and thought that killing someone who caused so much joy in these people's lives was a little sad. But over all a wonderful book and I recommend it highly!
