kind of messy plot, the whole mushroom turned human thing threw me off at the start, weirdly rushed ending
i did like the characters and their relationship was really heartwarming <3

Okay I think I have contained my emotions enough to have coherent thoughts so here is my review:
This novel was the angstiest thing i have read in a while. It is angsty in a it will make you have an existential crisis way. Definitely a difficult read just because of how much despair and hopelessness is in the book. That being said I think this book was great and I do not regret reading it.

An Zhe is such an interesting main character and his way of understanding humanity was really interesting to read. He is such a precious character
which made his first “death” even more heart wrenching

Lu Feng wow idek know what to say about Lu Feng. It is so hard to fully understand my opinions on him because he makes me question all of my moral standards but i think that’s the point.

Lu Feng and An Zhe’s relationship was seriously something great. I’ve seen other reviews complaining that there wasn’t enough development but my god humanity was at the brink of extinction idk when you were expecting them to rizz each other up.

A certain aspect that I did not like very much was how confusing and complicated the science got. Especially at the end. I was so confused and I still don’t really understand most of it. Maybe I am dumb but some of it was just so overwhelming to read I found myself rereading it over and over to try to understand. Also something that would happened often was something soul crushingly sad would happen and then boom big science lore drop so it was just very confusing for me idk.
they would have a big discovery and say “there’s no hope we’re all gonna die” and they had this realization like ever other chapter but kept saying it like it was new lmao. i was like i thought we were aware that everyone is going to die why are we still surprised.

That being said I liked the ending and liked the novel a lot. I probably will never reread this because of the emotional turmoil it put me through but i absolutely do not regret reading it. A solid novel and definitely has given me a different perspective on humanity and the human experience as a whole.

tldr: did i finish this book or did it finish me?
