wow. olivia gatwood so skillfully connects her early experiences, our modern-day obsession with true crime, and the fears of women across the board. throughout her collection of poems, she gives gentle but firm notice to the role race plays in real women’s outcomes. and with grace, she dances around how simultaneously rational and irrational women’s fears can often be. I felt both held and challenged by the end of the book.

the only book of poetry i have ever read in which i walked away with a different perspective of the world around me. i felt this book truly reflected what it means to be a woman in a way that i have never been able to articulate. fantastic, amazing, and devastating.

started precise and loosened up near the end. the writing was great, beautiful, but the contents of the poems are not for the light hearted. absolutely horrible, made me sick to my stomach.
