I have to say I was shocked by the end of A Heart Full of Headstones and any fans of Rebus and company need to read this book.  What I've always liked about Rankin's writing is how the characters lives and interactions are always the center of the story and the case is what drives them instead of the mystery being the end all of the book.  I also really love that Siobhan is confirmed in this book to be bisexual.  I hope one day we get a full book from her perspective.  The only thing I did not enjoy about A Heart Full of Headstones is all the COVID mentions.  I know Rankin has always used the Rebus books to look at contemporary life in Scotland so it shouldn't have been a surprise for me but I read to escape reality not to be reminded of it.
