The original peter pan is much more dark and intricate then the beloved disney movie we grew up with. I would say the closest adaptation would be the 2004 petter pan. All the characters have amazing traits. Most of all i was intrigued by Tiger Lily being the leader and was a fearsome opponent. Hooks back story is left to the imagination but is given very sad hints to his life. Peter is the most darkest character and i would say the true villian og the story. Peter is the embodiment of mommy issues and acts like a very violent toddler.

Peter Pan really isn't a book for me. I can't really connect with any of the characters and the plot is purposefully disjointed at times. It's a classic of course, but not for me.

Not what Disney led us to expect. It read at times as if the author watched the play and summarized it for the reader. The author also broke the 4th wall in ways that may have been amusing to audiences in the past, but read a bit awkwardly to me. Most of the characters were pretty flat, especially Wendy, whose primary character traits are wanting to be a mother and keep things tidy.  It also just didn’t age well, and many phrases and characterizations of the inhabitants of Neverland are now very cringe-worthy to say the least. The end was sweet and earned the whole story a half star more. Wouldn’t recommend and put me in a bit of a reading slump, which is impressive for a book of less than 200 pages.

A funny jumble of a story. Interesting to see where Peter Pan began.

OBVIOUSLY PROBLEMATIC REPRESENTATION OF NATIVE CHARACTERS, slurs included, stereotypes used. Period-typical language and stereotypes.
