Gah, I was very excited for this book, but I think I just didnt get. it.

I liked the style and a lot of the stories but I think some of the deeper references and points were lost on me because I'm not as learned in body politics as I like to think. Sigh.

I would like to revisit this, or potentially do some more reading on it in general. Jess Arndt seems fantastic and their writing style is great.

"Wine fermentation," the expert says, "happens when all of the individual grapes explode against the walls of their bodies."
How nice, I think, for them.'

Couldn't get into this unfortunately. I just found myself skim reading the last few stories to get it finished...

Maybe I'll revisit it later to see if anything changes, but I think I'm lacking the context to really understand what is going on.

The literaryness of this book wasn't really to my taste. But I did finish it and as a Jess who sometimes gets called Jeff by mistake, I felt seen

I don’t claim to understand all that was going on in this book, but it was an interesting and engaging experience. Intricately woven words and a thoroughly surreal disposition are blended with a sense of loss, confusion and yearning in how the characters perceive their bodies and identities. Definitely a unique read!

Haunting and interesting. It's refreshing to read a book that questions gender in a subtle way that requires the reader to piece things together.

A lot of good lines, but the stories didn't feel fully realized.
