The Thursday Murder Club is a group of four senior residents of Coopers Chase Retirement Village. They investigate cold case murders, although it is purely an educational exercise as nothing they might discover can be used legally. For the group, it is fun and gave them social interaction with others who have similar interests.

Then Tony Curran, part-owner of Coopers Chase, is murdered. No one really mourns his loss past the fact that the Club now has a current murder to investigate. Old secrets and scandals are revealed, individual codes of morality are explored, and there may be romance in the air.

What a convoluted mess of a mystery. Or should it be mysteries? It is still a fun read even if I found some of the characters too cardboard cutout and others a bit too naive for their age and backgrounds, not to mention how easily people confess their criminal acts to them. Still I did enjoy the book and definitely want to see the film when it comes out on DVD.

As a murder mystery this was good, not the best but good. The real magic though is the characters and humour - couldn't get enough of them!

The plot was complicated - we probably didn't need that many names to memorise - but it did mean while I guessed some of the mystery, there were pieces that I didn't!

I would recommend and will keep going with this series!
