Loved the characters and the story. For being such a short story I got more invested than I thought I would, the ending however was a little frustrating but I still recommend reading this.

this reminds me of that Suite Life of Zack and Cody episode with the con artist father-daughter duo

Let me just start by saying this was a VERY VERY VERY short book. I listened to it in a day and a half on audiobook just on my commute. Let me also say that while I love Gillian Flynn, this wasn't my favorite work of hers. It seemed like the start of something very creepy (which I love), but then left me wondering what would come next...and I felt a little bummed with where the story ended... Not a chance am I giving up on her - her other work is too darn amazing, but this just wasn't my favorite.

I REALLY loved this. I think the main character was enjoyable, the story had so many twists for such a small number of pages and it leaves you thinking about the ending A LOT. Super nice writing style too, and the narratorial voice was amazing.

The Grownup is a brief ghost story. At first I didn’t understand why it’s only 61 pages, but after reading it, I appreciate that it is so short.

It might have been nice, though, to have another 20-40 pages to flesh some things about more. Maybe the father or more about the house or the mother. I suppose she left that all to the reader’s imagination though.

There’s a cyclical feel to how Flynn tells her story. You’re left not knowing who is real, what is real, or what to believe. If she a continued in this way for the length of a full novel, it would have grown old quickly.

I was a little surprised, but not disappointed, by all of the talk about handjobs in the beginning of the book. I found it amusing.
