This was not only enjoyable but so enlightening as well. I did not know much at all about the deaf community coming into this book so that in itself hooked me. I loved the exploration of culture, family dynamics, politics, and medicine. It really told a story of a lesser known culture from all sides and experiences. Highly recommend to all readers.

Great story and characters and I just learned so much about the challenges the deaf community faces. Everyone should read this.

I enjoyed this! In the end it was a bit too cheesy for me but I definitely had a good time reading this. I appreciate what Novic tried to do with this book. I was super unaware of the danger that Deaf schools have been and are in, and of how many have already closed down throughout history. Definitely an interesting look into a part of the world that I usually don't interact with. I realise I should be more involved in advocating for the Deaf community.
