No clue how I ever got through this book. I just can say one thing, I hated the main character, man she was just terrible. Also the writing style made it a bit boring and hard to get through.

AWARE, THIS IS A LOVE TRIANGLE, DO NOT ENAGE!
Actually it was not as bad but I felt like the girl had to many mixed emotions for both guys that I could not handle it. When I first started reading the book, I was like ok her sister died and she is grieving. But then it escalated quickly into how she meet a boy in music class, how her DEAD SISTER'S BOYFRIEND kissed her. And the thing is, she did not have a lot of experience with boys, so that is probably why she had mixed feelings. BUT then I found out that her sister was pregnant and they were going to get married, I was like girl you better not choose him, that would just hurt everyone. Plus I preferred the boy from music class from the start because he was romantic and actually liked her playing her clarinet. I was glad at the end when the choose the boy from the music class because dating her DEAD sister's boyfriend is just to weird. I would recommend this book ONLY for people who can stand love triangles, I will probably have to take a break from then now :)

Amazing! Heartbreaking! Beautiful. Nelson is by far one of the best YA authors out there. Her writing is poetic and writes such authentic characters. While this book was heavy on the heartbreak, it was an emotional journey I was glad to experience. She needs to write more.
I took several attempts to read and finish this book. At first I really hated it because Lennie just wants to probably have sex which really dragged the story for me. But as I start to perceive things in a different way, I saw her grief and pain.
I love this novel and I am so grateful I get to finish it. A lot of who I am is written in this book, scattered everywhere like Lennie's poems. I am giving it 5 stars even when I hated it the first few times I tried to read it because it holds a special place in my heart. It's really important to me that a novel can speak to my soul. This book just gets me.

This is one of those books that didn't quite "click" with me.
The narrative and characterisation is flawless -Lennie and her sister are both loveable bookworms, and the Lennie's 'voice' is light-hearted and absolutely adorable. Every character is someone you'd like to meet, from Lennie's gardener-extraordinaire Gran and pothead lothario Uncle Big, to Lennie's best friend Sarah and Joe, the constantly-grinning new boy in her music class.
But the plot just didn't work for me. Lennie's relationship with Toby didn't feel romantic. As much as I wanted to believe it was grief behind Lennie's relationship with her dead sister's ex, a lot of her reasoning behind it was that she felt 'drawn to him'.
Grief can make you irrational, and it makes you want to be around people who understand what you're going through. But after this has happened a few times it's more of a matter of Lennie being unable to keep her lust in check, and my sympathy wore off. The story still managed to be amusing and upsetting in turns, but I felt 'disconnected' to Lennie and spent most of the story waiting for her to do the sane thing and choose Joe.
The edition I had was gorgeous - it was advertised as a hardcover on Amazon, but it was a softcover with a textured cover and lovely full-colour images of Lennie's poems throughout. (Ringo the Cat has some pictures of this edition.) I haven't seen as unique and detailed an edition of a book before, so if you decide to pick this up, that's the version to buy.
