I was 41% into the book when I realized it wasn't for me. I debated whether to keep reading or just DNF it, but I ended up pushing through to the end. Now, I regret it. I should have just put it down and picked up something else.
The book starts off painfully slow but picks up the pace around the halfway mark. The plot is pretty flat and things go downhill fast without giving you a chance to understand what's happening, which really takes the fun out of it. The characters feel emotionless and flat. Even when a loved one dies, there's no remorse, and every decision they make feels stupid. Some characters are killed off too quickly without giving them a chance to do anything significant in the story.
The last few chapters have predictable plot twists, but I did like the ending.
Overall, this book was a disappointment for me. If you're considering reading it, be prepared for a slow start and a plot that doesn't quite deliver. Personally, I wish I had moved on to something more engaging.

3.5 listened to this as an audiobook. It was a good time, but I think I would have preferred to read a physical copy. It would have done the audiobook well to have been a full cast listen, versus one narrator for all of the varying characters who had such different accents, backgrounds, ages, etc.
