This is the first book I think that I have read by a person of colour (I am trying to expand my reading) and it was amazing. Echo Browns writing is amazingly descriptive and mesmerising. The way she is able to entwine magical realism with reality really make you feel that life can be seen through a different lense. There were so many parts of the book that had amazing commentary on the human life and the life of a person of colour.
The struggles the main character faced and her ability to overcome and achieve her dreams and remain true to herself even after the struggles she has faced really shows the strength of humanity and women to overcome some of the hardest things that life can throw at you.
5/5!

This is a very well written and thoughtful book. It keeps you engaged. It is nicely detailed and doesn’t skip a beat in description. I absolutely loved everything about it. Although, it was unfortunate to hear about the passing of the author in 2023 but her story lives on in this beautifully magical memoir.

This is a powerful book in so many ways. Open your heart and your mind and then read this book to learn to see the world in a different way. Highly recommend the audiobook as read by the author.

The best book I have read this year!

The first novel in a very long time, to bring tears to my eyes. In all my years, this is the first time I have found the nuances of my life, as a black girl child - black young adult woman within the pages of a novel. I feel seen! Shout out to all the black girls, that are unlimited!
