4.5/5 stars - Cassandra Clare's books are transportation devices to 14 year old middle-school Emma and I can't get enough of it. I (as always) has a blast reading this series, and even though I read more high/adult fantasy these days, these books still bring just as much joy. This did not disappoint in the amount of teenage angst, demon-fighting and scenes that make me want to throw my ebook across the room. So sad that this will end with the next book!! :(
-
spoilery thoughts:
- I wish at least ONE COUPLE WOULD JUST BE HAPPY oh my GOD the dramatic irony is just too much
- book opens with the wedding
- Elias, Cordelias father returns, but he is still relapsing and is violent towards James
- James falls back into the shadow realm and is seeing through Jesse's eyes the murders happening in London
- belial left an anchor on Jesse to posses him and create a half demon half shadowhunter to defeat Cortana, but Cordelia took an oath (to who she thought was Wayland the smith) but turns out to be Lilith, and now shes her PALADIN!!!
- Jesse aka Belial killed shadow hunters in the shape of an insignia/rune and those marks then appeared on Jesse's corpse
- Tatiana brings Belial the key to the iron tombs and he takes her away from the citadel and iron sisterhood
- Matthew is still drunk, Christopher and grace see eachother as equals (without her weird spell) Thomas and Alastair get together after the mortal sword/suspect incident, Anna and adriadne are denying their LOVE!!!
- Lucie's power with the dead is getting stronger: wiping memories, commanding them, raising them
- James finally breaks graces bracelet and he and Cordelia have a few moments for themselves throughout the book but she flees to Paris with Matthew after hearing grace and James talk (but James is now angry at grace and the spell isnt working)
- there's so many more things but I'm sure Christine's book talk will be a good resource before reading book 2, and I bookmarked in iBooks major plot points

I was caught between blushes and pure pain. The hurt was so real and that’s what I loved about this book. This one was probably my favorite, but the hurt I felt…the hurt I still feel is deep. I am praying for a happy ending, I’m begging. It’s all fun and games until your favs are in involved

I’m not sure when I last jumped on a sequel this fast?? This was amazing and some of the best shit I’ve ever read but I’m so tired of this damn angst! Can’t wait to read the rest of this story because right now I am broken

I am so mad at Cassandra Clare for the big cliffhanger! Now, I will have to wait for a whole year to read the third book. At the same time, I am incredibly happy at how much she focused on both Lucie and Cordelia. Every time, I read Chain of Gold or Chain of Iron, I long for friends who are as Caring as James, fun as Matthew, supportive as Lucie, kind as Thomas, brave as Cordelia, awkward as Christopher, perceptive as Anna. The characters are so genuine and heartfelt and broken. Such a beautiful sequel. I think The Last Hours trilogy is going to be my second most favourite series of her after The Infernal Devices. The cover is absolutely gorgeous. The writing broke my heart over and over again. I would have loved to see a little bit more of Matthew but no complaints! Until then, I guess I will just dream of Paris.
