This was so adorable. Really, I don’t think you understand. Absolutely lovely.

two stars for the idea, zero for the execution.
too much inner monologue and descriptions and useless things, i skimmed half of the book.

I’m a sucker for
fake boyfriends. And nerds. No sex,
but plenty of swoon.

To be fair, the author did warn me that there would be a racist comment. Though when I got there, I found that it didn't add anything to the story and could have easily been replaced with something else. Otherwise the story was an easy way to pass the time

Liam works as a waiter at a fairly nice restaurant and the restaurant is completely disrupted one night by a classmate’s date who is beyond rude and controlling. Liam, concerned his friend is in a toxic relationship, invites her for coffee to express his concern only to find out she hired the man to be her terrible date so her parents won’t reject her unemployed, long-haired, musician boyfriend when they meet him.
Liam’s mother has been on his case about dating ever since he broke up with his cheating boyfriend over a year ago and so he claims to be seeing someone, not realizing that his family is coming into town to meet his sister’s fiancé that weekend. In desperation, he calls the bad boyfriend his friend used to be a normal boyfriend, only for it to backfire and his family demands both him and his boyfriend to come spend Easter break with them. That’s when he asks Ambrose to be a mildly bad boyfriend so they can “breakup” and hopefully Liam’s mother will be off his case for a while.
Super fun, wonderful romance. If it weren’t for the inconsistencies and the writing not being fully up to par it would be five stars. Really it isn’t that hard to decide whether the bad boyfriend incident happened on a Saturday or Sunday and stick with it. I know other people probably don’t notice, but it pulls me out of the story so hard. And there were a few other writing errors that were distracting. Regardless, exactly the type of romance I was hoping for when picking this book.
I was all for Ambrose seducing Neve’s cheating, scumbag, actual asshole fiancé as the best way to end the weekend. Kill two birds with one stone with being the bad boyfriend for the weekend and protecting Liam’s sister, but the author felt it would be a scumbag move to assume Marcus was a cheater even though he was a general asshole and not good for Névé anyway. But hey, having Marcus make the move thinking he could stale mate  Ambrose for also being a cheater and then plowing straight through when Ambrose tried to refuse was still fulfilling. However Ambrose never explains his side of the story and Liam just convinces everyone with no evidence that Ambrose was the victim. Névé, who discovered her fiancé pushing Ambrose against the counter to kiss him against his wishes, should’ve been the one defending Ambrose while accusing Marcus of being a cheater if Ambrose wasn’t going to give his side for reasons.
Adorable and fun. Mostly believable, but Ambrose’s family background and how it affects his mental health wasn’t fully believable. Maybe I need to meet more narcissist-raised people but it doesn’t mesh with what I know to happen to adults raised in those situations.

Really sweet

I loved this. One of those books that you grin your way through.

Dual POV third person, story focussed with low to medium heat, extremely excellent family members and Ambrose's "awful" act is hilariously awful.
