A nice set of tales that blends well with the world Ransom Riggs has designed. I wish I had been able to read thus after the first book, I felt too far removed from the plot to enjoy the stories as much as I could have.

Unlike the last series I was reading (Tales of the New World) the fact that this 160 page book technically only took me a couple hours to read because of how good it was, simply shows how good it was. The tales that Mallard picked to go into the complied book he put together was brilliant! Now I get to go back and read him as a main character in A Book of Maps and I can't be more excited! Ransom Riggs has me hook, line, and sinker! Great book!

Bei dieser Sammlung handelt sich um Märchen aus der Welt von [b:Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children|9460487|Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children (Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children, #1)|Ransom Riggs|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1472782916s/9460487.jpg|14345371]. Mein Erlebnis mit dem Roman war nicht sehr erquickend (ich fand die Verfilmung tatsächlich wesentlich unterhaltsamer), aber da ich auf abstruse Märchen stehe und diese Sammlung auch ganz gut für sich allein funktioniert, wollte ich sie unbedingt lesen. Die Rechnung ging auf. Ransom Riggs Erzählungen gefallen mir wesentlich besser als seine vorangegangene Trilogie. Es geht herrlich düster zu, die Ideen für den verschiedenen Talente der Peculiars sind originell und der Stil baut auf schönster Märchenmanier auf ohne dass es wie schon mal dagewesen wirkt. Dazu kommt die hochwertige Gestaltung. Die goldene Sonderfarbe findet sich innen wieder, jede Seite ist geschmückt mit kleinen Ornamenten, es gibt ein Lesebändchen, einen Ex Libris “Stempel” und jede der 10 Geschichten hat eine eigene Illustration von Andrew Davidson. Wem mehr an der Original Miss Peregrine Welt liegt, wird sich sicher über die Einleitung und Fußnoten von Millard Nullings freuen. Meine Lieblingsgeschichten sind The Splendid Cannibals (sind die Kannibalen hier wirklich die Bösen?) und Cocobola (es geht um Inseln auf sehr besondere Art und Weise, mehr will ich nicht verraten).

Awesome collection of Peculiar fairy tales! My favorite story is the one about the first ymbrynne, I love anything that expands the mythology of a world. Also the wood cut prints are absolutely stunning!!!

Audio was good - I like the storytelling tone of folk/fairy tales with a dark edge, and the "editor's notes" that tie it into the larger world/history of Peculiars. I've only read Miss Peregrine #1, and I think this collection of tales can stand alone completely, or be a segue into the series for someone who hasn't read the other books.

The book overall was good. I didn't find it especially entertaining but it also wasn't terrible.
For me the format was just to plain because it played in a way that was pretty much: Once upon a time... and they lived happily ever after; tale after tale, so it was hard to keep my motivation for reading it.
The stories were good enough, some more interesting than others.
There wasn't anything too transcending in my opinion, except maybe for the way in which humans always were either disgusted by peculiars or tried to use them as tool. I think that was a good message as to what kind pf behavior this species tends to portray.
