Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It did get a little unnecessarily convoluted and wandered off course with a few characters that were hard to invest in, mostly because they were too unrealistic). But I also get why it was compared to Jodi Picoult’s writing.

Bonnie Kistler's debut book 'House on Fire' immediately drew me in.  It is a gripping thriller.  She kept my attention through the audiobook.  She threw in a twist that I was not even expecting.  A very good debut and I will be reading more by her.

😊 Happy Reading 😊

The subplots were really more distracting than anything. The main story was good but would have been better without all the others.

My favorite part was when the patriarch an upper class family that has two fucking /horses/ thought that their privileged son, who got into prestigious college, would be the first ‘really rich’ person in their family.

There was a lot going on in this book. It is the story of a blended family which is affected by tragedy. Kip is a senior in high school with his future looking great. He has a terrific summer internship with the governor's office, he is headed to Duke in the fall, and he is doing well in school.
But, at a party one night, his stepsister Chrissy comes to warn him that their parents are on their way home early from a getaway. Kip's life is forever changed that night.
Once tragedy hits, it tears the family apart. Who do you believe, who do you trust, is your love strong enough to endure?
In addition to the tragedy, there are other stories happening. Leigh, the mother, is a divorce attorney, and several high profile divorce cases are sent her way. Peter, the father, is a builder, and there is a storyline regarding his clients and the state of his business.
These stories weave their way in and out of the tragedy happening in the family.
I felt that this story was a bit long, it could have possibly been 50-75 pages shorter and tighter.

I enjoyed this book.... but it had some extras twists that didn't really benefit thr story. I would have enjoyed more if the author stuck to the main plot without so many random sub-plots.

This book wanted (NEEDED) to be three different books. I struggled to finish because my the end the storylines were just too much and I ended up not really caring about anyone at all.

House on Fire started off as an interesting story. However, it was so hard to keep up with all the additional side stories. The whole plot line with the sheikha? Then the storyline with the secret agent and kidnappers? It was all too much. It felt like I was reading a Jason Bourne story, not a story about a family in turmoil. I ended up skimming a lot at the end because I was uninterested and just wanted it to be over with.
