God I didn’t always love the writing style (felt like she skipped over things that could’ve been elaborated on or like there were things that were too convenient) but it was a good story 🫨 It had me SOBBING the last 1/4 of the book, just pain and suffering and agony.

Might have to explore some other books by her.

There is a lot of talk of domestic violence and familial death.

I was gripped from the very beginning. It was heartbreaking, frustrating, and inspiring. The ending where
it was clear that Matthew was okay but she didn’t find out until she saw him and when he thought she wanted him to meet another man were annoying added tropes but other than that I have no notes. It was a frustrating story at times but in a way that is realistic

I thought The Nightingale was my favorite from this author, but now I think it might be this one. I devoured it in two days. I was so stressed for most of the book, and then during the last quarter I was just sobbing, repeatedly. She really knows how to tell a good story, and I loved the setting, and characters like Large Marge. She also really does just make her characters suffer and suffer more, and then suffer even more. Have mercy on me, Kristin!
