I received the Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami via a Goodreads Giveaway. Spoilers ahead.
I have been wanting to read Murakami. I am a fan of magic realism, so talking cats, magical stones and such was just part of what made this book a good read for me.
The prose was beautiful and some of the more profound sentences were interspersed between activities you wouldn't associate with profound sentences.
Most of the characters' stories were interesting. I felt a loss of the character when some of them died.
I felt it was a heavy read with light hearted moments.
I gave it 4 stars and if I could I would give it 4 1/2 stars, it's very good and I highly recommend it.

OMG, as interesting and thrilling as this book was.
IT WAS SO CONFUSING.
Even after reading, one can never fully grasp the concepts or the plot of the book.
I would say it’s a good read in regards to the actual contents and plot of the book but the ending was a bit dissatisfying because I still only vaguely understood what happened.
However, the youtube videos online helped explained things further but nothing worse than reading a book and not really understanding what you read. But I would still recommend this book if you want to enjoy the plot because it is very thrilling.

This is a kind of book which you can never truly understand, as it explores the consciousness and the unconsciousness, situating itself somewhere on the border between reality and dreams. It’s full of metaphors that sometimes don’t represent anything specific.
Anyway, I liked the reflections it prompted and the moral dilemmas it presented, and although I still don’t get what it was about, I kind of got into it.
