Hmm, I liked the book but now that I'm finished I kinda feel ... empty. Like I have achieved literally nothing in life . I have not lived lmao
Overall I would give this 3.5 stars because I enjoyed it but sometimes it dragged on and the change of character from Kafka to Nakata was so frustrating like I'm sorry Nakata, I love you, but I don't care about you making it rain fish ugh

Whilst I found elements of this book enjoyable, I mostly found myself scratching my head, waiting for "the big reveal" that, ultimately, never came.
I understand that this is a surrealist novel with intentioned obscurity. However, that by no means an excuse for the convoluted and ultimately boring narrative that made up around 80% or the novel's contents.
This just wasn't for me.

occasionally good but hilariously preachy. the characters jump at every chance to deliver hamfisted sermons about the winding paths of life, so often that the novel becomes virtually impossible to take seriously and tedious to get through.
i suspect that much of the charm of this book has been lost in translation.

When I finished this book I was Just confused. This is a story for a lot of interpretation. Many Things I surely dont understand, but overall I really enjoyed reading it. The writing and story telling is so immersive it sometimes feels like a fever dream. I never experienced something like this before. It has many many beautiful quotes and passages which really make you think deep about them.
On the other hand what I didn't enjoy was the whole s*x prophecy and the depiction of it. It really made me uncomfortable (maybe that was what he wanted to achieve idk).
Overall I enjoyed it and will pick up other Murakami books!

"Narrow minds devoid of imagination. Intolerance, theories cut off from reality, empty terminology, usurped ideals, inflexible systems. THOSE are the things that really frighten me. What I absolutely fear and loathe."
