challenging dark sad medium-paced

Not a huge fan, but I can see why people like it. Might have been more impactful for me at a different time in my life.

I had to force myself to finish this book. The author is so self-involved it's frightening.

I can’t believe I suffered through over 200 pages; curious about where it would go, I guess. Big mistake and waste of time.

Amazing

I struggled at times with the stream of consciousness writing style, while understanding that's kind of the point. Nonetheless, there are a number of passages in this book that struck me hard and with stick with me for a long time. Maybe it's just because of my personal universe at the moment, but I found the book largely a contemplation of death...and the life you live before it and the lives those around you live after it. This isn't an easy book to read...but that's okay too.

Didn’t like the writing

Very good, but, as it claims to be, somewhat spotty in parts.

Often laughed out loud while reading this one; yet at the same time it dragged.

Finished reading Dave Eggers A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius one of my all-time favorite titles of a book EVER. I like how he talks to the reader, switches narrative structure on a whim, and generally remains completely neurotic throughout. Besides all that, he’s got a great descriptive element: “Beth and I take turns driving him to and fro, down the hill and up again and otherwise we lose weeks like buttons, like pencils.”
